For our Ramayana reading project, I chose to read the public domain version of the reading I chose this version because not only is it free but it also provides lots of notes, pictures, and links with more information. I am a visual learner and as much as I enjoy imagining the world that is depicted in books, having the ability to actually look at pictures and be able to see what I am reading in front of me is much more enjoyable for me. I started to go through the first few pages because I was scared to choose the version with old fashion language but I found the notes and links left in the readings very helpful and persuaded me more to go with this option.
Vasantasena, A Dancer and Her Most Precious Jewel, Vasavadatta: The Princess who Captivated a True Kshatriya, and Purushottam Dev and Padmavati: Their Ally Was Jagannatha are 3 of the love stories that captured my attention. Vasantasena's story sounds interesting because it is much more than just a story of her falling for a man while she has other pursuers, I want to know more about her jewels and see the many twists that are mentioned in the summary. The plot sounds interesting because it includes romance and thriller. Vasavadatta's and Purushottam Dev and Padmavati's stories are more of a falling in love with the enemy type of stories but I do like reading those types and I want to see how they overcome the obstacles to keep safe and keep their love together. One that is not a love story but I still found interesting is the Ganesha: The Remover of all Obstacles, the way he was created and his loyalty to Parvati is remarkable, I was also shocked to find out why his head is that of an elephant. I really want to learn more about his story.
The first video that I automatically clicked was Fascinating Women From Mythology because I wanted to learn more of all the amazing women, all of the women mentioned in the video are very admirable and fearless. Draupadi, Surpnakha, Urmila, Savitri, Mandodari, Hidimbi, Sita all have different struggles but in their own ways, they contain immense strength and are all fighters. Rama and the Ramayana: Crash Course World Mythology #27 and Hindu Creation Stories were both good videos that helped me understand and learn about Indian culture. When looking first only at the comics Rama's story sounded a little confusing to me but the crash course helped me understand and get me more interested in Rama's life story. The Hindu Creation video even though short helped me understand and learn a little more about Hinduism and some of the things that were mentioned in the other reading.
