Microfiction: Week 13

Cursed In the village of Lakenville, townspeople and witches used to live in harmony, but one-day greed had taken upon the villagers. They came up with a plan to trap the witches and use their powers for themselves. Some wanted beauty, others wanted wealth or power. When the witches fell asleep the townspeople quietly crept into their homes. They were equipped with fire sticks, cages, guns, and all sorts of weapons. However, they were not so quiet as the witches quickly woke up. When they saw what the townspeople were planning the swung into action, casting spells back and forth. The head witch was the only one to survive and as she saw her fellow witches' bodies lifeless and becoming dust her anger grew. She yelled at them and cast a curse on the whole town. Those born in the next thirty years will have eyes that will bring death upon the village. Luckily, a fairy was able to decrease the curse for not all future births to be cursed however no one knew who or how many

Gandhari A Mother's Love Darkness, tears, suffering, even with a blindfold over my eyes the disastrous future that waits for my family is crystal clear to my eyes.  The day I was blessed by Lord Shiva with one-hundred sons I thought it was the best day ever but why do I keep having this bad feeling. Yudhishthira with a dog as a chariot to heaven arrives in his March to Mount Meru Biography- Tales of Yudhishthira: Justice for the Pandava Yudhishthira was the last one standing. During their journey to Mount Meru one by one the Pandavas began to fall starting with Draupadi and Bhima begin the last to fall after Yudhishthira. He sees a flying chariot approaching him and the dog. God Indra offers to take him to heaven but he refuses to go without his brothers and wife. After Indra assures him they are already in heaven, Yudhishthira than says he wants the dog to accompany him since he can't leave the loyal dog behind. Indra is outraged but he insists that the dog reveals himself as god Yuma who was testing Yudhishthira again because of this he is allowed to enter heaven in his human form and Indra chariot. Gandhari Biography:    Gandhari: A Mother Blinded by Love: Volume 44 Gandhari is the daughter of King Subala of Gandhara. She marries Dhritarashtra. the king of Hastinapura. However the king is is blind. This does not stop Gandhari from marring him though instead of running away she blindfolds herself to show her devotion to him and they both marry. She is blessed by Lord Shiva to have 100 sons. When Gandhari gives birth she gives it to a shapeless lump. Vyasa says he will help her so he puts the lump into 100 jars and there her sons are all born. However, there is something off about them. When the Kauravas and Pandavas are playing dice and Draupadi has had enough and begins to put a curse of them, Gandhari stops her fearing the worst and urges Dhritarashtra to give them back their winnings. Clever Hare with the King of Elephants  The Hare in the Moon  Bibliography:  This is a Indian folk story about why one sees a hare in the moon and how the small hare outwitted the big elephant. There was a colony of hares living peacefully by the lake but one day that peace was interrupted by a herd of elephants. The elephants stomped on some of the poor hares causing them to die. Those who survived saw danger living with the elephants and therefore with great despair they had to leave their home. Well, almost all left. One brave hare stayed behind, the hare did not like witnessing those of his colony get crushed or shooed from their home by the elephants. So he came up with a plan to get rid of them. Flying For the First Time Scared, afraid, nervous, excited I was feeling all emotions right now. I was sitting in the passenger's seat of the car looking out the window, unsure of what was to come. Women's Eye  Careful When Looking into a Mirror Look in the mirror. Oh! But don't look too close...because if you're not careful, you will be met with the worst. Curiosity got the best of you. What di you see? Look into your pupil. Closer..Closer..Closer. Legend says that when you look too close--Death will be the one you meet.  Man in the Eye  Pupil. Tiny man. Death? Or Not.  Author's Note: Both stories were inspired by the fable The Man in the Eye from the book Indian Fables and Folklore by Shovona Devi. The story is told in a poetic way and talks about how there is a small tiny man in our pupils. Some belief it to be death but it is mostly those who are very gullible. It is up to you if you believe or not. 

Microficition: Addiction

Casino Dice  A Gambler's Fate  I had it all---gold, silver, a kingdom, horses, a tight family, and a beautiful wife. But my misfortune came when I met the game of dice. Game after game I began to lose it all. Now I've forced my family to live in a forest for thirteen years all because of my addiction to the game.  Game of Dice Dice rolls. Goodbye, all I've known.  Author's note: Both stories were inspired by Yudhishthir's and Shakuni's game of dice in which Yudhishthir loses everything in the game and therefore the Pandavas have to live in exile for thirteen years

Week 12 Reading Notes Part B

Exile of the Pandavas Bibliography: The Mahabharata: Karmic Revolution by Epified TV (India) (Part E-F) Pandavas of Exile  Dushasan and Duryodan knew that the Pandavas were filled with anger and desire for revenge against them because they did not want to deal with their revenge tactics and prevent them in the future they planned another plan to get rid of the Pandavas for good--- another game of dice. Their plan was to play another game of dice with them betting their kingdom taking it from them and therefore, leaving them homeless and forcing them to go on 13 years of exile. The plan sounded perfect and the word was quickly sent to the Pandavas. Yudhishthira couldn't say no to a game of dice so he accepted the offer. However, that decision was quickly regretted after he lost the kingdom too and therefore caused Daurpadi and his brothers together with him to be exiled for 13 years. Their people stayed loyal to them and did not want to stay with the Kauravas so they j

Shakuni master of dice Bibliography: The Mahabharata: Karmic Revolution by Epified TV (India) (Part E-F) Yudhishthir Gambles Shakuni had planned an evil plan to ruin the Pandavas and get all their wealth and thus exil them. Shakuni knew that Yudishthir loved to gamble and therefore he called him in for a game of dice. Yudhishthir quickly accepted and the game began. Time kept passing but to Yudhishthir time seemed to be going slower than ever as game after game he kept loosing to Shakuni. Quickly Yudhishthir began to lose everything from all his gold, silver, money, horses, kingdom and all his possession. Even though not shown in the open one could almost see Shakuni's evil smile. Yudhishthira could not believe what was happening. Even though he had lost everything he still believed he could turn things around so he continued to play. However, since he had no other possession left he began to gamble his brother and game after game he lost them too. Having nothing else

Babbitt  Authors note- Both microfictions were based on the Golden Goose folktale that teaches us the consequences of greed. A golden goose one tried to help a poor family by giving them a feather they could sell however the mother's greed took over and tried to take all the goose's feather however the feather changed color when it wasn't the goose's will and became worthless. The goose was able to grow them back and escaped and never came back. The family had been living well with the help of the goose but when greed took over the goose left and the family went back to having money problems. 

Reading Notes Part B- The Cunning Wolf

Wild Wolf by Pixabay Bibliography;  The Tricky Wolf and Rats  from  More Jataka Tales  by Ellen C. Babbitt  There once was a cunning wolf, one day he got hungry and saw that there was a village of rats in the forest and he wanted to eat them. The tricky wolf thought of a plan in where he would be able to eat the rats and not get caught by the rats and their chief. One day he stood on his hind legs when he saw they were coming when asked why he was standing in such a way the wolf responded it was because his legs hurt, then the rats Cheif also asked him why was he holding his mouth open. The wolf responded that it needed to take in all the air he could since it was the only thing he could live on. The chief felt bad for the wold so he would visit him every day together with the other rats. However, this was the plan of the wolf in order to lure them in and in the end, he would eat the last rat. The chief saw that each day by bedtime there was less and fewer rats, this worried him a

Babbitt  In the Golden Goose, the goose was selfless and tried to do a good thing for the poor mother and daughter but the greediness of the mother drove the goose away and gave them a poor future. The goose feathers were made of gold, as the goose was going by it saw a mother her daughter suffering because they were poor. Seeing them made the goose sad so he thought of a great idea to help the poor family, he would give them one of his feathers so they could sell them and in return get money and would no longer suffer from economical problems. The goose would only give them one feather ever so often. The family never suffered from money again when the goose saw they were going to need money again it would come back and give them another feather. They lived out of the town and in order to get money for this month they needed to go into town where they would be able to sell their products. The only problem was that in order to get to the market he had to go cross the hot sandy desert to get the town. David prepared his wagon and oxen for the journey he also asked 6 of his workers to go with him on the journey.
